Union Pacific 844 Locomotive

On Friday, April 23, Melanie and I spent most of our day following the Union Pacific 844 from Knoxville, AR to Van Buren, AR. The steam locomotive was built in 1944 and was originally engineered to pull 26 cars at up to 120 mph. The train was retired, but later restored and brought back into service. Union Pacific last moved the train through Arkansas in 1984 on its way to the Worlds Fair in St. Louis.

It was an impressive sight to see and the roar of this locomotive barreling down the tracks was even more awe inspiring. We were able to catch it at Knoxville, Hartman, Ozark, and again in Van Buren. We had a great time (well, Melanie did for the first four hours). Enjoy the pics. You can see additional pics on our www.flickr.com page by clicking one of the flickr photos in the upper right corner of the blog.

Arkansas-Missouri Railroad

Saturday afternoon I ran back to Fayetteville to try and get a couple of shots of the train coming back from Van Buren. The Arkansas & Missouri Railroad runs their excursion train on Fridays and Saturdays. I just wanted to get a couple of shots in and check some camera settings before next weeks trip to Van Buren to see the Union Pacific steam train (UP 844) coming from Russellville to Van Buren on Friday.

Battle of Fayetteville

This morning we ran to Fayetteville to a Civil War celebration of the Battle of Fayetteville. We were hoping for a re-enactment, but didn't get to see one. Did get a couple of quick pics.

Our First Post

We are new to blogging and wanted to have an another option to share some of our family pics and adventures. We utilized flickr in the past and are excited about trying out a blog so our family and friends can share some of our pics.

We will be using the blog to post some of my pics since picking back up on my photography hobby as well as some family pics. You'll see a lot of landscape and nature shots mixed with some family fun pics. Probably a lot of random stuff to begin.

Hope you enjoy!
